Cara Dawson - Cara Dawson Plays Scarlatti, Kieran Timbrell, C.P.E Bach and Christian Drew

Cara Dawson performs a mixture of baroque and contemporary music live as part of the state51 Conservatoire series.

Programme:
D. Scarlatti - Sonata in F minor K.466
Kieran Timbrell - The Triumphal Arch - The Despairing Column
C.P.E Bach - Fantasia in Eb Wq. 58
Christian Drew - Tunnel Music

"It was a really wonderful performing at the state51 back in December - it had been almost a year since my last performance so it was both a terrifying yet electrifying experience. I chose to perform four pieces which contrast and balance each other out - two really old pieces by Scarlatti and CPE Bach and two really new pieces by my good friends Kieran Timbrell and Christian Drew. The Scarlatti and Timbrell share similarities in that they both have very clear structures, and the CPE Bach and Drew are both improvisatory and meandering in nature. Old music and new music are my favourite musics to perform, and so it felt really right for my first performance in so long.” - Cara

Cara Dawson is a harpist who plays across London and Berlin. She is a graduate of renowned institutions: Chethams School of Music where she received the Ida Caroll Award for Strings, Guildhall School as a Henry Wood Trust Scholar, and most recently Trinity Laban where she studied under the tutelage of Gabriella Dall’Olio.

In recent years, Cara has become a passionate performer of new music, and regularly works with composers to write new works for harp solo and ensemble. On multiple occasions these have incorporated multi-disciplinary facets such as theatre, electronics, spoken word, improvisations and video projections.

In 2018 Cara co-founded the composer/performer collective Red Panel which aims to circumvent the conventional concert tradition by focussing solely on creating its own works and airing these in intimate settings.
